The Best Offline Games for a Long Flight
Before a long-haul flight last month I did the annoying thing everyone forgets: I tested every game on airplane mode before boarding. Turns out a shocking number of free games just show a spinning loader when the signal dies. So here's what survived.
Tidepool Tales was the standout. It's a self-contained adventure that saves locally, so I got through the whole first half somewhere over the Atlantic. Lantern Hollow was the other one I kept returning to, mostly because the puzzles are the perfect length for that half-asleep flight brain.
My one tip: check the game before you leave the house, not at the gate. Some titles download extra content on first launch and won't do that offline. Open each one, play a level, then trust it.
If you only have room for two games, take one relaxed puzzler and one strategy game. The puzzler is for when you're tired, the strategy game is for when you catch a second wind. That combo got me through the whole flight.
